Asbestos
Thousands of people die each year in the UK from asbestos-related diseases, because they breathed asbestos dust many years ago.

Thousands of tons of asbestos are still in place in older buildings. The danger to you and your staff comes from people drilling, cutting, sanding or disturbing materials made from asbestos and breathing in the dust.

If you own, occupy, manage or have responsibilities for non-domestic premises which may contain asbestos, you will either have:

  • a legal duty to manage the risk from this material; or
  • a duty to co-operate with whoever manages that risk.

You will need, therefore, to determine the location and condition of any Asbestos containing material (ACM’s) in your buildings and to develop a management plan to ensure that the risks of exposure are suitably managed.

Safety Simplified holds certification for the HSE Accredited course BOHS P402 Certificate in Bulk Sampling and Surveying and can, therefore, undertake detailed surveys and sampling to confirm, or otherwise, the presence of Asbestos in your properties.  In addition we can develop a suitable management plan for you, up to and including regular reviews of all Asbestos in any or all of your property portfolio.

There is also a legal requirement for an asbestos register to be compiled for each building/operation, detailing the location and condition of asbestos, as well as long term management goals. We can supply these as either paper or electronic systems for your ease of management.

As independent surveyors and management consultants we provide impartial advice and services to aid you in understanding and complying with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002.

It is possible that, if you occupy a modern building, you will not need a detailed survey and may be able to compile your own register. To this end we can provide an Asbestos Management system on CD at very competitive rates.  Your property needs to have been built later than 1999, when the use of asbestos was banned, to be reasonably certain that there is minimal risk of there being asbestos in your buildings.
